Parent Education on Social Issues

There is an overwhelming amount of information available to parents via the media, internet and other forms of media.  What information is accurate?  Where is the best place to source credible information? How can parents better understand the issues confronting their children?

These sessions aim to provide parents with accurate, current information on current trends and issues involving young people and to empower parents by assisting them with ideas and strategies for communicating with their young person.

Relationships and Sexuality Education

The theme of these sessions is about developing healthy relationships, and positive social and emotional health. Research shows that when young people have information about sexuality and sexual health, they are more likely to make decisions which keep them safe and happy. Relationships, gender roles and stereotyping, puberty, sexual health, parents talking to children are just some of the topics explored in these workshops. Topics and interactive strategies are customised to suit the specific audience. These audiences may include parents, teachers, nurses, youth workers, young people and others.

Team Building

Throughout these workshops participants are encouraged to get to know their fellow team members in a more personal as well as professional way. Innovative and interactive strategies include group work, problem solving tasks and challenges, paired and whole group discussions, identification of own and others strengths, personality types, preferred working and team player styles. Participants are given the opportunity to recognise and celebrate their own, others’ and the team’s achievements through strategies promoting positive and constructive feedback.

We promise no “death by PowerPoint”!

This session focuses on developing skills to build self-awareness and positive self-esteem by understanding and dealing with thoughts and feelings about physical appearance, in particular weight and shape. The aim of this workshop is to help young people reflect on issues of body image, self esteem and critical media literacy skills.
